Session Reports – In the Studio w/Charlie Waymire

FullOnDrums.com has launched a new video series called “Session Report”.

In this new series Charlie will document actual sessions at Ultimate Studios, Inc. He’ll talk about choosing microphones to fit the artists sound, micing techniques and concepts, gear, and most importantly why he chooses to use a particular mic or setup.

Session Reports are all about context. Some setups will be fairly straight forward and some may be more unorthodox. The goal is to show what went in to capturing a sound for a specific artist.

The debut Session Report episode features drummer Jeff Bowders (Paul Gilbert/Puddle of Mudd). Jeff performs a track of his album “The Pilgrimage of Thingamuhjig”. Check out the video below and be sure to visit FullOnDrums.com for a complete breakdown of the session including photos, mic list, outboard gear list, and detailed session notes.

Enjoy!

Charlie Plays on New Ryan Higa Parody

YouTube sensation Ryan Higa has released another comedy hit titled “GTFO My Room” and commissioned Charlie to play on the track. The song is a parody of all things EMO, was co-written and produced by Andy Lange, and shot straight to the top of the iTunes Comedy chart.

During tracking the gang took some time to film an episode of FullOnDrums to document the drum recording process. Andy Lange (more video from Andy soon!) joins Charlie at Ultimate Rhythm Studios for filming of the episode and gives some details about the song. Enjoy!

Statues of Cats EP Released!

Statues of Cats EP Released!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rock Band Statues of Cats Release Debut EP!

Los Angeles, California – October 8, 2013 – Rock band Statues of Cats have just released their debut EP, “Memorabilia”, on 80/20 Records. The band recorded and mixed the EP at Ultimate Rhythm Studios in Los Angeles with engineer Charlie Waymire. The mastering was done by Ernesto Homeyer at Ultimate Rhythm Studios. With a vibe similar to Kings of Leon and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Statues of Cats give you a mix of rock, funk, good grooves, and fantastic vocals! “Memorabilia” is sure to earn its place in just about anyone’s collection.

Statues of Cats recording their debut EP!

Statues of Cats consists of David Hauge (vocals/guitars), Jonney Machtig (guitars/vocals), Dan Rojas (bass/vocals), and Anthony Salazar (drums/vocals). The approach for this 5 song EP was much different than the typical recording process in this day and age. Where as a lot of music made now is piece mailed together, SOC and engineer Charlie Waymire wanted “Memorabilia” to be done organically with as much “feel” as possible. “We had everyone in the room playing together, live. We even kept the scratch vocal on one of the songs because David sang his heart out on that take. What you hear on this EP is 4 guys having fun and playing music together. The energy is contagious” says engineer Charlie Waymire.

Statues of Cats is not your run of the mill rock band. They aren’t afraid to play a heavy rock riff on one song and then follow it up with a funk tune. The band was featured on an episode of FullOnDrums.com during tracking and gave a live performance of “Valley of the Sun”. They are currently working on tour dates for the fall.

“Memorabilia” is available on iTunes!

“Jeff makes it easy to record drums. His precision is second to none and he’s powerful but still has finesse. Not too many drummers have that combo.” says engineer Charlie Waymire.
