From The Control Room w/Mike Avenaim (w/video)

A few days before hitting the road with Emblem3 for their fall tour, drummer Mike Avenaim stopped by the studio for a quick interview. He talks about why he likes recording his drum tracks at Ultimate Rhythm Studios, how he prepares for sessions, how he developed his sound, and tips for drummers new to the studio. Mike has some good advice about working in the studio!

Mike has done several records with engineer Charlie Waymire at Ultimate Rhythm Studios including: Jordan Millar’s “Cold Lights On Curious Minds”, heart.beats.mind debut self-titled EP, and Reese Mastin’s “Beautiful Nightmare”, to name a few.

“Mike is a fantastic drummer and is very easy to work with. He comes in the studio very prepared and has all of his sounds pretty much dialed in. All I have to do is capture his sound without missing anything. It makes for some fun sessions!” says Charlie.

Drummer Ray Rojo Releases New Song (w/video)
We were honored to have drummer Ray Rojo in the studio recording his very first composition, “Over the Trees”, and shooting a killer video! For this song Ray put together a formidable band featuring Pete Griffin (Zappa Plays Zappa/Edgar Winters) on bass, Chris Buzea on guitar, and Chris Norton (Zappa Plays Zappa) on keys. One listen to this track and you’ll know why Ray picked these guys.

“I’ve known Ray for quite sometime now and he has really become a fantastic drummer. He is one of the most hard working musicians I know and is dedicated to becoming better and better each and every day. We had a great time in the studio working with him and his band. I can’t wait to hear what he comes up with next!” says recording and mixing engineer Charlie Waymire.

A new project featuring members of the band Tomorrows Bad Seeds has been tracking drums at URS for their upcoming album. They’re using some pretty awesome drummers and last week was Josh Freese! Besides being a phenomenal drummer he’s one heck of a story teller!

“Not Again!?” is an instrumental magic carpet ride! From the funk grooves of “JB’s Broken Leg” and “Funky Strut” to the progressive rockers “T3” and “Explorer”, “Not Again!?” demands more than one listen!

The Sonic Chameleon Sessions
Eclectic Is The Name Of The Game With The Sonic Chameleon

True diversity is hard to find in todays music business let alone in a single artist. That’s why it’s always a pleasure when The Sonic Chameleon is in the studio because you truly never know what you’ll get. From the Jazz vocal stylings of the amazing Katie Campbell, the fusion drumscapes of Nathan Carter to the metal madness of Ray Rojo!

“Skinwalker”, a great 90’s esque rock song, is being mixed by Charlie at Ultimate Rhythm Studio. We’ll have some sound samples up as soon as mastering is done.

“Unload” is a bit of a departure from their debut release “Hero”. Although both albums are pure, honest rock music; “Unload” is much heavier! With hard driving grooves, in your face guitar riffs and melodic and sometimes angry vocals “Unload” with make the rush hour drive way more enjoyable!
