Console Side Chat Live Recording!

Console Side Chat Live Recording!

On our next Console Live Chat Live Stream we are actually going to do some recording!

If you’ve joined us for one of our Console Side Chat Live Streams then you know we cover a LOT of topics. The best part being that we get to hang out with all of you!

Since our topic of conversation always centers around recording music we decided to have a little fun and record a little ditty live during the stream! The setup will be drums (2 mics only!), bass, electric guitar and acoustic guitar.

But……

We need your help in selecting the mics we’re going to use for the recording. We’ve created a simple poll with a set of mics for each instrument and we need to you vote. Sunday before the live stream we’ll tally the votes, setup up the session and go live!

You can vote at: https://www.ultimatestudiosinc.com/livestreams/

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Live Stream!

The link below is live. Be sure to set a reminder!

Ultimate Studios, Inc Turns 2!

Ultimate Studios, Inc Turns 2!

It was just over 2 years ago when I set out to build a new studio. I had completely outgrown the studio I had in Hollywood and needed a LOT more room. It took us just about 3 months to complete the build including running all the wiring through the walls. It was a HUGE undertaking and I enjoyed every minute of it. Although I do enjoy it much more now that it’s finished! 🙂

A big thanks to Mike Bondra, my contractor, for making this happen. Without him I wouldn’t have a studio. He took my design and made it come to life while at the same time he somehow was able to deal with me and my OCD during the process. We basically spent everyday for over 2 months together and somehow didn’t kill each other!

I also put my partner Ernetso Homeyer to work and without he and Scott Francisco no audio would pass through the rooms. Because of you guys I now know how to wire and Elco patchbay! My gorgeous girlfriend Lizzy Ostro put up with long hours (15-18 hour days) seven days a week and she even helped me hang drywall. She did so much work on the studio that she could probably build one by herself now!

I would like to thank each and every musician, producer, composer, and company that has worked with me at the studio over the past two years. You have helped me make Ultimate Studios, Inc a success and it has been a pleasure working with you all!

Ultimate Studios, Inc Owner, Engineer, and Producer Charlie Waymire

To celebrate the 2 year birthday of the new studio I’m going to post a bunch of photos from the build and add a new one each day on the Ultimate Studios, Inc Facebook page. Here are a few to get started and check the Facebook page each day for more! Be sure to “like” us too!

I look forward to working with everyone to make more great music in 2015!

URS 2014 Post NAMM Jam!

URS 2014 Post NAMM Jam!

After a fun 2014 winter NAMM and a week to recover it was time to do a little jammin’! With a studio full of some of the best musicians in LA there was good music all night and the hang was awesome! Thank you to everyone that attended! Here’s a little video and some photos from the night! Looking forward to the next one!

We literally threw some microphones up, did no soundcheck, and the jam was on. People were hangin’ out, talking, clapping, and interacting! It was fun!

Jam featuring: Paul Vallis – Harmonica, Jeff Marshall – Guitar, Ernesto Homeyer – Guitar, Kevin Chown – Bass, & Aubrey Richmond – Violin. (shot from the iPhone Cam)

Tips & Tricks – Basic Guitar Micing pt3 (w/video)

“Tips & Tricks” is a new video series from Ultimate Rhythm Studios that is aimed to help you learn how to make better recordings. We’re kicking off the “Tips & Tricks” series talking about guitars!

In part 2 Charlie and Ernesto showed you how to use two microphones to get a full guitar tone and give you a lot of tonal options. In part 3 they will use condenser mics to record a full and open guitar sound.

Setup #1 is a single MXL v67i. It is placed at different angles and pointed at different spots of the cone to demonstrate the different sound option and is running through the Toft ATB24 console with no eq.

Setup #2 combines an MXL v67i with an Audio Technica AE3000 condenser. Both are running through the Toft ATB24 with no eq.

Drummer Ray Rojo Releases New Song (w/video)

We were honored to have drummer Ray Rojo in the studio recording his very first composition, “Over the Trees”, and shooting a killer video! For this song Ray put together a formidable band featuring Pete Griffin (Zappa Plays Zappa/Edgar Winters) on bass, Chris Buzea on guitar, and Chris Norton (Zappa Plays Zappa) on keys. One listen to this track and you’ll know why Ray picked these guys.

“I’ve known Ray for quite sometime now and he has really become a fantastic drummer. He is one of the most hard working musicians I know and is dedicated to becoming better and better each and every day. We had a great time in the studio working with him and his band. I can’t wait to hear what he comes up with next!” says recording and mixing engineer Charlie Waymire.

“Over the Trees” will be on iTunes soon!

An Afternoon In The Studio Turns Heavy!

An Afternoon In The Studio Turns Heavy!

One day it’s a ballad, the next day it’s a funk tune. You just never know but on one particularly sunny day in Hollywood Charlie, Ernesto and Menno went a little insane and this is the result. A little hint…it’s not a ballad and it’s not a funk tune. Enjoy!
